Odyssey House School Wokingham celebrates positive ISI inspection
We are delighted to share the results of the latest Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection at Odyssey House School, Wokingham, which took place from 7 to 9 July 2026.
The inspection recognised the commitment, care and expertise demonstrated across the school, with all relevant Standards met across leadership and management, quality of education, pupils’ physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing, social and economic education, and safeguarding.
It is a fantastic achievement and one that reflects the work of the entire Odyssey House community.
Putting pupils at the heart of Odyssey House
One of the most encouraging aspects of the report was its recognition of the school’s pupil-centred approach. Inspectors highlighted that leaders place “pupils’ wellbeing at the centre of the school’s ethos and daily practice”, recognising that many pupils have experienced barriers to education before arriving at Odyssey House.
The report also praised the relationships developed between pupils and staff, noting how calm communication and personalised support help pupils to feel safe, re-engage with education and build confidence. This reflects what we aim to achieve every day: creating an environment where pupils are understood as individuals and given the support they need to learn, grow and succeed.
Education built around the individual
The inspection recognised the strength of the personalised education provided at Odyssey House. Inspectors found that “teaching is effective because staff know pupils well”, with learning planned around individual needs and personal learning plans.
The close relationship between education and therapy was also recognised as a particular strength. The report highlighted an integrated approach in which the education and therapy teams work cohesively, helping pupils to make good progress, develop greater independence and participate more successfully in school life.
Building confidence, resilience and self-esteem
Academic progress is only one part of a young person’s development. The report recognised the work being done to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, confidence and resilience, describing how learning is broken down into achievable steps so that:
“Pupils experience success, build resilience and learn that mistakes are a natural part of improvement.”
It is a statement that captures so much of what Odyssey House seeks to provide: a place where pupils can experience success and begin to see what they are capable of achieving.
A strong culture of safeguarding
The inspection also recognised the school’s approach to safeguarding, describing a “robust safeguarding culture” and highlighting the shared responsibility embedded throughout daily school life. This sits alongside an environment described by inspectors as “orderly and purposeful”, where calm and predictable routines help pupils feel supported.
Congratulations to the Odyssey House team
An inspection is a snapshot in time, but the findings reflect the work that takes place across Odyssey House every day. We would therefore like to congratulate Headteacher Tristan Powell and the entire Odyssey House School Wokingham team on the outcome of the inspection. From teachers and therapists to pastoral, support and leadership teams, this achievement belongs to the people who work each day to help pupils reconnect with education and move forward with confidence.
We are incredibly proud of the positive findings, while continuing to reflect, develop and improve the experience we provide for every pupil.
