Odyssey Education Group is pleased to announce the appointment of David Coulter as Clinical Director, reinforcing our commitment to inclusive, therapeutic education that helps every pupil thrive.

As a trained Occupational Therapist with extensive leadership experience, David will oversee Odyssey’s clinical and therapeutic strategy across our schools and services. He brings a proven track record in building supportive, trauma-informed school environments and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to meet the needs of vulnerable children and young people.

Putting children first — in practice, every day

David’s approach is rooted in Odyssey’s belief that every child deserves a personalised route to success. He integrates a wide range of therapies — including occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, sensory integration and mental-health support — to create individualised plans that remove barriers to learning and wellbeing.

  • Child-centred and evidence-informed: Tailored interventions that align with each learner’s strengths, EHCP outcomes and aspirations.
  • Collaborative by design: Close partnership with teachers, pastoral teams, families and external professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Therapeutic environments: Classroom adaptations and sensory-smart spaces that help pupils regulate, engage and achieve.
  • Consistent impact: Clear goals, measured outcomes and regular review to sustain progress.

Experience that spans settings

David has led large multidisciplinary teams across assessment centres, online therapeutic services and community-based provision. This breadth ensures Odyssey can respond flexibly — whether support is needed in school, at home or through blended models — so pupils receive the right help at the right time.

Compassionate leadership with high standards

Guided by compassion and innovation, David is focused on improving outcomes for learners with complex needs. His priorities for the year ahead include:

  • Establishing a group-wide therapeutic framework with consistent standards and clear pathways of support.
  • Enhancing early identification and screening for sensory, communication and mental-health needs.
  • Expanding staff training in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation and universal classroom strategies.
  • Strengthening family partnership, including practical workshops and accessible resources.
  • Building a robust impact and outcomes dashboard to evidence progress and refine provision.
