Job Purpose

At Odyssey, the Therapy Lead is a key senior leader, responsible for delivering Odyssey school’s therapeutic vision. Working closely with the Clinical Director, the Therapy Lead develops, implements, and continually improves the therapy provision, ensuring it is evidence-based, neuro-affirming, and meets the needs of all pupils. The Therapy Lead is a visible leader in the school, sitting on SLT of Wokingham championing a therapeutic environment and culture that supports the holistic development and wellbeing of every pupil. The Therapy lead holds a caseload of young people supporting them through their discipline specific therapy.  

Leadership & Service Development 

  • Work with the Clinical Director to develop, evaluate, and enhance the therapy provision across the school and outreach settings. 
  • Lead, supervise, and support the therapy team, ensuring high standards of clinical practice and professional development. 
  • Act as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), contributing to whole-school strategy, decision-making, and the creation of a therapeutic, inclusive environment. 
  • Implement, and review therapy policies, protocols, and service delivery models in line with best practice and regulatory requirements. 
  • Foster a culture of reflective practice, continuous improvement, and innovation within the Wokingham therapy team.
  • Reporting regularly to the Clinical Director, around successes and areas of concern in delivering therapeutic education at Wokingham.

Clinical Governance & Safeguarding 

  • Ensure all therapy staff adhere to safeguarding policies and maintain a culture of vigilance. 
  • Oversee clinical supervision, appraisal, and professional development for Wokingham.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records, reports, and documentation in line with professional standards that are available for review by the Clinical Director. 
  • Ensure compliance with HCPC, RCOT, RCSLT, and other relevant professional bodies. 

Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration 

  • Work closely with teaching, pastoral, and leadership teams to integrate therapy into the wider curriculum and school life. 
  • Liaise with external agencies, families, and professionals to ensure coordinated support for pupils. 
  • Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings, annual reviews, and EHCP processes as required. 

Direct Clinical Work 

  • Carry a caseload, modelling best practice in assessment, intervention, and review. 
  • Provide specialist advice and consultation to staff, pupils, and families. 
  • Lead on the development and delivery of training for staff and parents/carers. 

Quality Assurance & Reporting 

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of therapy interventions, using data to inform service development. 
  • Prepare reports for the Clinical Director, SLT, and external stakeholders as required. 
  • Ensure therapy provision meets statutory and contractual requirements. 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Uphold the vision, values, and ethos of Odyssey at all times. 
  • Set a positive example in professional conduct, dress, punctuality, and attendance. 
  • Travel between school sites as required.

Requirements

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, or related discipline 
  • Registration with HCPC and relevant professional body (RCOT, RCSLT, etc.) 
  • Evidence of post-qualification training in leadership, supervision, or clinical governance 
  • Safeguarding training (DSL or equivalent) 
  • Significant experience working as a therapist with children/young people with SEND 
  • Experience of leading or supervising a therapy team 
  • Experience of working in a school or educational setting 
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working 
  • Experience of service development or quality improvement 
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Strong clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice 
  • Ability to manage complex cases and risk 
  • Proficient in record keeping, report writing, and data analysis 
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, SEND, and relevant legislation 
  • Patient, calm, and resilient 
  • Commitment to inclusion and neurodiversity-affirming practice 
  • Organised, proactive, and self-motivated 
  • Able to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, families, and external partners
